It was about three weeks ago in Austin, my Jeep and its passengers had a close encounter with another vehicle. I was in the wrong lane, turning the wrong direction, and there was loud honking and shouts from my passengers, “What are you doing?!?!?!?” To make matters worse I was being followed by two other cars, and they got in the same predicament! It was a frightening experience, and begged a lot of questions on how exactly we ended up in that situation.
What we discovered on our post near death discussion, was that on our way to eat I ended up following the wrong car, going to the wrong destination, and I was in the wrong lane; a recipe for disaster. The thing is, this can easily happen to any of us. Okay, maybe you are a better driver than I am (most people are I admit), but in life it’s easy. We think are following the right person, we think we are following Jesus, but in reality we are following work, people, money, power, and so many other things. While more often than not, we don’t realize it until it’s too late.
So we have to check ourselves. Are we following Jesus, or something/someone else? Hopefully it won’t take a near death experience get us back on the right path!
“When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”” John 8:12 NIV
