Leaving Your Couch

Follow your dreams. I am not saying it is going to be easy, but I am saying it’s going to be worth it.” -Moffat Machingura

I used to have a couch that when I say it was the most comfortable couch in the world, I only exaggerate a little. It was heaven. I would often steal away before church services to take a nap. Don’t judge me, I can feel it.

We love to be comfortable. Most of our lives are spent in pursuit of comfort. More money for more comfort. We even go so far as to to pursue careers that get us the most money, even if we don’t enjoy it.

God has recently ignited in my life a passion to pursue my dreams, to pursue the plans that God has prepared for my life.

I don’t want to live my life chasing after things that don’t matter. But it becomes easy to do just that, and avoid the struggle of actually trying.

My greatest struggle has been the fact that God has called me to be a public speaker, a preacher, despite the fact that I am an introvert. Yet, I love to do exactly what God has placed before me, even though it’s difficult.

I still struggle though with how people will actually react to what I do. I am critical of my writing, my speaking, and all of the dreams that I have. I want to reach people for Christ, but often I don’t have confidence in what I have to say.

The easiest thing to do is to stay on my (our) proverbial couch and do what I have always done. If I do, I won’t have to worry about failing or being liked or being received well, but I also won’t ever go anywhere.

My dreams will end up being killed by my fear of leaving my comfort zone, and so will yours if you just stay where you’re at.

So I made a decision, that I will get up and do something!

First, for me that something is writing both this blog and a book (well two) that I have had in my heart for a long time. I’ve constantly put it aside, fearing what people might think. (I will post more about it as progress is made.)

Secondly, that means creating a Youtube channel. This is hard for me because being on camera is not my strong suit, and I HATE my voice.

I’m still afraid and a little uncomfortable, but I am going to trust the voice and the words that God has given me. We all have different giftings and callings that God has placed in us, and we should not be afraid to use them. God doesn’t just call us based on our own talent but according to what He can do through us with His power.

Take a step of faith, yeah it’ll be scary, and you may not know how, why, where, and what is next, but God will be with us every step of the way.

“We all have different gifts that God has given to us by His loving-favor. We are to use them…” Romans 12:6 (NLT)

“Have I not told you? Be strong and have strength of heart! Do not be afraid or lose faith. For the Lord your God is with you anywhere you go.” Joshua 1:9 (NLT)
